ROANOKE, VA - Crews in Roanoke responded to a fire this morning at a duplex on River land Road. They received the call at 9:30 and had the fire under control within five minutes. When crews arrived, they found light smoke showing from the upper part of the duplex. A dryer was on fire, and the fire had spread to the walls of the room. Investigators say the fire started from the dryer. The home had smoke detectors, but they weren't working because the batteries were dead.

ROYALTON, NY - Two residents of a home were treated for smoke inhalation after a fire in their laundry room during the noon hour Monday, the Niagara County Sheriffs Office reported. The fire started in a dryer after a load of wet clothing was put in it, deputies said. After one resident saw flames under the dryer, the family fled outside with several pets.
